The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service. The American Cancer Society works with youth dealing with cancer and also with college students in the Colleges Against Cancer Program. The American Cancer Society is a private, not for profit agency. The American Cancer Society strives to prevent cancer and reduce its effects through research, education, advocacy, and the provision of patient services. Educational materials and programs are available, as well as cancer information, support programs, transportation assistance, local resource information, and medical equipment sources. 19 Counties in Illinois - Champaign, Clark, Clay, Coles, Cumberland, Crawford, Douglas, Edgar, Effingham, Fayette, Ford, Iroquois, Jasper, Lawrence, Moultrie, Piatt, Shelby, Richland, and Vermilion.
