Program/Service Notes

Services offered by the local chapter are: 1. Services to Military and Veteran's Families: * Counseling in personal and family problems. * Reporting and communication service includes: - guidance concerning direct communication between servicemen and their dependents - use of Red Cross channels when direct communication facilities are not available - assistance to servicemen and their dependents by providing reports and social histories needed by military authorities when requested by Veteran's Administration * Assistance applying for government benefits which includes supplying information about government regulations and legislation * Referral service through which families and individuals may be informed of, and assisted in, the utilization of other available resources. * Financial assistance on the basis of need to those eligible. 2. International Services: The American Red Cross cooperates with 126 other independent national Red Cross societies and joins with them in direct relief programs for disaster victims and refugees. The Red Cross performs humanitarian services on an international basis. Among these activities is the re-uniting of families separated by war and other circumstances beyond their control. 3. Disaster Relief: The American National Red Cross utilizes all available resources, such as federal, state and local government and private agency disaster relief programs, in addition to its own resources to meet the needs of disaster victims. Red Cross help includes food, clothing, shelter, first aid, and other basic elements for comfort and survival. Also, welfare inquiries from concerned families outside the disaster area. Disaster victims needing long time recovery assistance are provided counseling and information as to available resources so that they can resume living in keeping with acceptable standards of health, safety, and human dignity. If there are no other resources available, the Red Cross may provide direct assistance to enable the victims to reestablish themselves. 4. Health and Safety Services: Provides an assortment of classes both at the community and corporate level including; CPR, Life Saving and Water Safety, Baby sitting. Preventing disease transmission, first aid and AED instruction. 5. Community Volunteer Programs: Trained adult and youth volunteers serve in veterans and civilian hospitals augmenting services in community institutions and agencies. Provides training and opportunity for adult and youth volunteers through each area of Red Cross service.
