District #118 is responsible for: * Coordination of bus schedules for each attendance center * Attendance/truancy problems * Coordination of the work of the Hearing Officer in cases of suspension/expulsion * Coordination of student record maintenance * Coordination of work of School District with that of the Juvenile Court * Student Assistance Program at the Danville High School Danville District #118's Title I Program offers a variety of programs for students in both the elementary and middle school. These programs include reading, math, Reading Recovery, Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), extended day, and summer school. The district also offers: A wide range of intervention support programs that are designed to accelerate student achievement and help every student learn to his/her fullest potential, graduating with his/her peers from Danville High School. Utilizing resources available to the District through State and Federal grant, the students in Danville Public Schools receive academic support through: 1. Financial assistance through completion of an appropriate application. If a child receives AFCD or if the family income is within the poverty level as determined by the federal government, the students may qualify for free/reduced lunch and student enrollment and extra-curricular fees. 2. Title I School Wide Programs: All elementary schools have qualified for and implemented Title I School Wide Programs. These programs as designed to utilize all resources available to ensure that all students achieve success in the classroom and learn to State and District Standards. 3. Education Plus Extended Day Program: All elementary offer an extended day program on a limited basis that provides students with an additional ninety minutes of instruction in reading and math. 4. Extended Year Summer Programs: Summer programs that are available to identified students in the Danville community include ninety hours of academic instruction. 5. Accelerated Reader: A district-wide motivational reading program in grades K-8 that recognizes student reading based on the number of books read and points earned. 6. AVID - Advancing Via Individual Determination: A program that begins in grade 6 for students identified as receiving average grades, with the potential to do much better and the ability to continue education beyond high school to college. This is a college preparatory class for first generation college students. 7. Gifted and Talented Programming: Recognizing the unique needs of the students with greater potential, the district offers self-contained programming beginning in grade 3 that culminates in a high school program that provides students opportunity to graduate from high school having already earned college credit through Advanced Placement courses or courses offered for dual credit through Danville Area Community College. 8. MERIT Academy - Manufacturing Engineering Robotic Industrial Technology and AIMS Academy in Medical Sciences: A "School within a School" concept at Danville High that includes two career academies. Academies block students into groups and schedules that integrate career focused activities into their academic course work. 9. WECEP - Work Experience and Career Exploration Program: Helps to motivate and provide meaningful relationships between what students are learning in school and what they may be doing in the world of work. Students are encouraged in the development of positive attitudes, in exploring careers and in relating to adults/teachers, parents, employers and fellow workers. * Students combine school and work into a daily schedule * The WECEP Coordinator recruits students and job sites for students, working with the student and the employer to orientat the new employee to the world of work. * Students receive academic credit for related call and on-the-job training. 11. Extracurricular Programs: Beginning with grade 4, students are given opportunity to explore their interest, talent and potential in a wide range of academic, athletic and extracurricular programs.
