Program/Service Notes
The following programs are offered by Human Services. 1. Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) - This program is for people who need money to help take care of themselves and their children. 2. Teen Parent Initiative/Young Parent Services - This program assist young parents who are on TANF by helping them stay in school to obtain a high school diploma or equivalent, so they can become more self-sufficient and move from dependence to independence. 3. Aid to the Aged, Blind or Disabled (AABD) - This program is for people who are aged, blind or have a disability and need money and medical care to help take care of themselves. This program provides monthly checks, special diet needs and funeral/burial/cremation. 4. Nursing Home Services and Information for Couples - This program pays for long term nursing home services through the Medical Assistance Program. 5. Medical Assistance - This program is for people who need help in paying their medical bills. If families qualify for TANF or AABD Cash they automatically receive medical coverage. Individuals must be categorically eligible. 6. Medical Assistance Spend-Down - This program lets eligible people get a MediPlan card to help pay for their medical care. To get a MediPlan card, a person needs his/her bills or receipts for medical care, drugs or supplies in an amount Public Aid calls "spend-down". This monthly spend-down amount, works like an insurance deductible-that is, the Medicaid Program will pay for your medical care when you can show that you owe or have paid medical bills in the amount of your monthly spend-down. Expenses may be carried forward and combined to meet a subsequent month. 7. Establishing Parentage - Public Aid Child Support will assist a person in establishing the parentage of any child under the age of 18. 8. Food Stamps - This program is for people who need additional assistance to buy food. Individuals who do not qualify for the other services because of income may qualify for Food Stamps. 9. Child Support Enforcement Services (non-TANF) - This program is for parents or guardians who need help getting support payments for their children. The program serves parents who receive public assistance as well as those who don't. 10. Appeals and Hearings 11. Crisis Assistance Programs and Expedited Service for Food Stamps - This is for qualified people that have an immediate need for food, shelter or clothing. Expedited Service for Food Stamps entitles you to receive FS within 5 days of applying.
