The Housing Authority of the City of Danville offers: * H.U.D. approved low-income housing and Section 8 housing * Substance abuse education and referral services to residents of public housing through Resource Center * Adult basic education classes for adults and tutorial programs for youth in public housing * Recreational, social and cultural programs for youth, adults, and seniors in public housing (i.e., Summer Recreation Program and Summer Meals Program). * Character building programs for adolescents and teens. * Resident leadership training programs for residents Residence units have: * Ranges and refrigerators * Laundry facilities on-site * 24 hour maintenance * Heat, water and garbage paid * Accessible, barrier free entrances and exits * Playground facilities * Senior sites are cable ready Following is a list of the units available: 1. Madison Court -- Is a 10 unit complex located at the corner of Washington and Madison Streets. It contains 4 efficiencies and 6 one bedroom apartments. Residents enjoy a full program of activities and have a large community room with kitchen facilities available for use. Seniors may take advantage of CRIS Senior Meal programs. 2. Mer Che -- Is a 100 unit high rise. Located at 723 Oak Street. Offers both studio and one bedroom apartments. Mer Che offers a large community room complete with piano, stage, pool table and kitchen. Seniors may take advantage of CRIS Senior Meal programs. An active resident council insures both a voice in policy making and monthly activities. Also available to residents through the Resident Services Program is the Senior and Community Care Program. 3. Churchill Towers -- Contains 20 efficiency and 30 one bedroom apartments. This facility is located at 101 E. Seminary. It has on-site laundry facilities, large kitchens and activity room. The Danville Post Office and the Danville Public Library are within walking distance. 4. Beeler Terrace -- Located at the corner of Washington and Seminary streets. Beeler offers housing to families of all sizes. With a total of 51 apartments, it offers 9 one bedroom apartments along with 2, 3 and 4 bedroom townhouses. Residents enjoy the numerous programs. 5. Fair Oaks -- It is the largest complex within the Housing Authority of Danville. The 326 apartments are located at the intersection of Fairchild and Fowler Streets. Units range in size from 1 to 5 bedroom townhouses and apartments. Fair Oaks offers many educational and recreational services. Residents enjoy security and 24 hour maintenance services, summer meal programs and youth activities. Most units are equipped with laundry hookups, stoves and refrigerators. The Danville Housing Authority has a Family Enrichment Center that offers several programs to address the many social problems faced by its residents. The programs are also open to the public. Following is a list of those services; 1. Family Enrichment Center: This is an on-site training and information center that serves as a meeting place, resource library and a safe environment for learning and growing. It is stocked with information about health, social, economical, political and educational issues that we face within today's constantly changing society. 2. Computer Room: This is located within the Family Enrichment Center. Tutorial, business and educational programs are available. The center is filled with several types of computer educational games (Math, Science, Spelling, Writing Assistance Programs, Substance Abuse Programs, Graphics and Stationery Programs.) This service is available to all residents. Call to schedule a date and time for use. 3. After School Programs for Youth (Tutoring): Tutoring is available for youth ages kindergarten through 12th grade. Youth may attend tutoring on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between the hours of 4:00 PM through 6:00 PM. One on one study sessions are available. 4. District #118: The Family Enrichment Center houses several District 118 Alternative Educational sites including high school, middle school, truancy and spcial education altenative programs.
