About the Program: Sites of Care: VA Illiana Health Care System (VAIHCS) provides primary and secondary healthcare services to veterans residing in central Illinois and west central Indiana. Inpatient services are available in acute and subacute Internal Medicine, Surgery and Psychiatry. Nursing home care is provided in a skilled care environment with special focuses on rehabilitation, dementia and Alzheimer's care, gero-psychiatric care, palliative care and extended care. Extended care in Psychiatry is also provided. A full cadre of ambulatory care services is offered including primary care, ambulatory surgery, mental health, substance abuse and specialty care. The parent facility is located in Danville, Illinois, with primary care provided at community based outpatient clinics in Decatur, Peoria and Springfield, Illinois and West Lafayette, Indiana. Administrative support is provided to two readjustment counseling centers in Peoria and Springfield and the national cemeteries in Danville and Springfield. The population of veterans in VAIHCS service area is approximately 147,000. VA Illiana Health Care System is part of Veteran Integrated Service Network (VISN) 11, which includes facilities in Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Danville, Detroit, Indianapolis, Northern Indiana and Saginaw. Affiliations: VAIHCS maintains an active affiliation with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Champaign-Urbana for both medical residents and advanced students in the medical scholars (dual degree) program. We are also affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria for residents in internal medicine and family practice. Also an active affiliation is established with Indiana University School of Optometry for residents in hospital-based optometry. We have affiliations with 31 institutions of post secondary education for trainees in associated health care professions. There are over 60 programs with affiliations in areas that include Audiology and Speech Pathology, Dietetics, Dental Hygienist, Music Therapy, Nursing (RN and LPN), Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, Psychology, Radiology Technology, Social Work and Therapeutic Recreation programs.
