Legacy Giving

The generosity that built United Way of Danville Area’s first 100 years can help carry us through the next 100. A legacy gift is a way to care for neighbors you may never meet and help ensure that future generations have somewhere to turn when they need support. Whether you give to our endowment now or include United Way in your plans for the future, your gift becomes part of a community that keeps showing up for one another.

Smart Ways to Give

For nearly 100 years, people like you have helped United Way of Danville Area show up for neighbors across Vermilion, Fountain, and Warren Counties. Your generosity helps meet needs today, and as we look toward our next century, it can help build lasting support for the generations that follow.

Many people give through their workplace, by check, or online. You may also be able to give through your IRA, a gift of stock, or your estate plan. Explore the options below, then talk with us about the kind of impact you want to make.

Give from Your IRA

If you’re 70½ or older, you may be able to make a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD, directly from your IRA to United Way of Danville Area. An eligible QCD is generally excluded from taxable income and can count toward your required minimum distribution if one applies to you.

Your IRA administrator can help arrange the transfer. To discuss a gift or let us know one is on its way, contact Angie Lazzell, CEO, at ceo@unitedwayda.org or 217-442-3512.

Donate Appreciated Stock

A gift of appreciated stock can turn an investment you’ve held into support for your community. Depending on your circumstances, giving stock directly may offer tax advantages compared with selling it first and donating the proceeds.

Contact Angie before starting a transfer so we can provide the information your financial advisor needs and make sure your gift is recognized.

Include United Way in Your Will

A gift in your will or estate plan is a way to care for this community well into the future. You can choose an amount or a percentage of your estate, and you can update your plans as life changes. Your gift can help United Way continue bringing people together to meet needs we cannot yet see.

If you’d like to include United Way of Danville Area in your plans, Angie can help you gather the organization details to share with your attorney.

Give to the Endowment

Annual gifts help local programs respond to needs right now. A gift to United Way’s endowment helps sustain that work for the long term. The fund’s investment returns will support United Way’s operations, helping more annual campaign dollars reach community programs.

You can give to the endowment during your lifetime or include it in your estate plans. Gifts of every size help build the resources our next century will need.
